Kindergarten Curriculum

Little Stars Early Education Centre in Avondale Heights offers government-funded kindergarten programs for three- and four-year-olds. Our program is led by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher and supported by Diploma-qualified assistant educators.

Our kindergarten curriculum is based on the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework (VEYLF), and focuses on the essential skills needed for school readiness and preparing for Prep. It draws inspiration from Montessori (teacher-guided and structured), Reggio Emilia (the environment is the second teacher and children initiate their own learning), and play-based learning theories (through play, children learn valuable skills), enhancing both engagement and learning. Our qualified teachers and educators engage in reflective practice to ensure better curriculum decision making and ongoing support for children.

Our team of teachers fosters strong partnerships with families to support early intervention and ensure a smooth transition to school for all children. We promote cultural awareness throughout the kindergarten program, helping children gain a deeper understanding of diversity. We encourage collaboration among children, fostering an environment where they learn together, develop positive attitudes, and show care and respect for one another. We are committed to ensuring that all of our teachers provide inclusive education for every child, including those who experience separation anxiety, disabilities, or special needs. We believe that all children should feel valued, supported, and cared for at all times.

Key components of our Kindergarten curriculum include a structured school readiness program, literacy and numeracy workshops, monthly excursions, visits to St. Martin De Porres Primary School in Term 4, our Term 4 lunchbox program, an extensive outdoor program, and nutritionally balanced meals. These elements reflect our teachers’ commitment to setting high expectations for every child’s learning and development, valuing each child’s unique strengths, encouraging them to embrace new challenges, and fostering an environment where children feel confident expressing their views.

We prioritise children’s social and emotional development, with educators supporting them in self-regulation, problem-solving, self-help skills, and building self-esteem. To document each child’s development, our Early Childhood Teachers provide daily photographs of each child’s day, monthly observations and conduct six-monthly learning assessments, allowing us to celebrate your child’s successes and identify areas for improvement.
